Historical development of the anthropology of law and anthropological aspects of law. Aspects of social reality through legal categories. Fundamentals of the theory of law and society. Philosophy of law. Historical development of law. Legal order and its components. Legal sources (domestic and international) and application of legal acts. Customary law. Historical development of modern state, forms of states and state organisation. Legal state, democracy and legal pluralism. Law, politics, language and power. Methods of conflict resolution. Human rights and liberties. Concept, development, theories, meaning and role of human rights in contemporary legal systems and societies. Global and intercultural aspects of human rights. Basic legal documents. Human rights protection. Rights of ethnic, religious and other minorities. Status of asilum-seekers and refugees. Genocide. Anthropology of law and aborigines in postcolonial discourse. Land disputes and different concepts of ownership. Protection of intellectual property through various cultural practices and traditional ecological knowledge. Ethical issues. Research interests of students and current events are taken into account in a presentation of a subject.

During practical work participants study selected basic texts from the anthropology of law and learn skills for confronting the law in legal and bureaucratic procedures, accompanied by interpretation of legal texts. Concrete legal problems and structure met in anthropological research are recognised in written forms and anthropologically assessed.
