Spatial organization of material culture: residuality, representativeness, intentionality. Institutions and spatial structures of Antiquity: community, state (statuses of communities – political / professional / religious, town / state community, political system – institutions and borders of nation’s sovereignty, territory statuses, state infrastructure and administration, army, public religion and other religions). Architectural / urban theory of Antiquity. Groma surveying. Elements of planning antique structures: metric systems, modularity, composition.
Locational criteria: settlements – towns / rural centres / trading posts / cult centres / road stations / villas / farms; defensive structures and systems; communications; communal infrastructure. Planned antique landscapes. Archaeology of public functions: political (forum, comitium, curia, basilica; administrations, archives, treasuries; monuments), religious (towns, facilities, and cult inventory: public cults and accompanying events – ludi etc.), entertaining (baths, theatres, amphitheatres, navalia), infrastructural (roads, postal service, ports, pipelines, sewage systems, irrigation and channels, limitations), economic (mining areas, state mints and armouries, trade posts, markets, and storage complexes), and defensive (archaeology of the army – soldier’s equipment, army / defensive structures, defensive systems). Functional typologies of structures and inventories connected to public functions. Types of accompanying epigraphic monuments.
