As part of the lectures students familiarize themselves that specific part of the reconstructed consonantal system of the proto-language that concerns the Proto-Indo-European laryngeals, i.e. with the basics of the laryngeal theory in as far this concerns the diachronically based description of the segmental phonology of Proto-Indo-European.

As part of the tutorial, students learn to identify a specific linguistic phenomenon, such as ablaut and the development of consonants in various historical languages, and determine which languages display significant deviations.
