The course acquaints the student with the peculiarities of contemporary Portuguese literature from the 30-ies of 20th century to the present, focusing on the streams of the other half of the 20th century.
19th century:
Realistic novel: Eça de Queirós (Os Maias, The Crime of Father Amaro, O Primo Basilio), Camilo Castelo Branco-, António Herculano.
20th century:
Prose: the most important writers of the postpessoan period: Jorge de Sena, José Cardoso Pires, Urbano Tavares Rodrigues, Augustin Bessa-Luís, José Saramago, Lidia Jorge, António Lobo Antunes, Nuno de Bragança, Joao Aguiar, Gonçalo M. Tavares and others.
